Task 3:
Recommendations
Southwest Deserts Cluster
|
Based on the methodology
presented thus far, there are two tribes in the Southwest Deserts region that are not represented by an IMPROVE monitoring site.
These tribes include: |
|
Cocopah
Tribe, AZ |
Quechuan
Tribe, CA and AZ |
|
 |
|
The nearest IMPROVE protocol
monitor is the Organ Pipe site, ORPI1, located 190km to the east. The
Quechuan tribe is located just north of the City of Yuma. Much of the
land to the east of the tribe appears to be used in agriculture while the
west and northwest is open desert. Interstate 8 runs through the
southern portion of the tribe. |
|
The Cocopah tribe is
similarly located along the Colorado River mostly over agricultural land
less than 10 km south of Quechuan tribal land. |
|
Given the lack of IMPROVE
aerosol measurements in this region, we recommend a new
site to represent these tribes. |
