Performance of HYSPLIT during dust storms |
|
Introduction |
Lagrangian particle models
have been used to predict the trajectories of dust plumes and dust
deposition but the literature is sparce on using dust to validate the model.
Martin et al. (1990) used a Saharan dust episode to validate a trajectory
model on the order of 3000 km. |

Plan |
We propose the use of past
dust plume events to validate the trajectory model by running a trajectory
ensemble and comparing that to the
dust plume as seen from space. |
|
Dust plume episodes are
chosen from selected GOES and MODIS satellite imagery during the time period
2000 to 2006. Events are chosen based on the visibility of the plume outline
over the landsurface. |
