Okefenokee
Wilderness Area |

Okefenokee Wilderness Area is located in the southeastern
corner of Georgia bordering Florida. The wilderness is approximately 20
miles northeast of Jacksonville, Florida. The wilderness is part of the
396,009 acre Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. The wilderness
area consists of 343,850 acres of islands, lakes, cypress forests,
scrub-shrub areas, and open wet “prairies”. The IMPROVE site is located
in a grass covered cleared area near the refuge headquarters. The
nearest highway is
highway 121, 3.3 miles to the east. The IMPROVE
site is located at an elevation of 48 m MSL. The US Fish & Wildlife operates
a wet deposition monitoring site within close proximity
of the IMPROVE site. |
